Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Therapist, Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size Dietitian

Hello! My name is Golie Khayef and I am a non-diet intuitive eating dietitian who has successfully guided several individuals who struggled with disordered eating behaviors or eating disorders for over a decade. Why am I confident in my abilities to help YOU? I earned a doctorate degree in nutrition education, completed a very competitive internship program and have 10 years of experience in the field but more importantly, I have a healthy relationship with food and my body that I earned through my own journey!

Is food supposed to be my medicine and heal my body every day? Or is it supposed to be my joy and highlight of the day? Why do I resort to food for everything? Why is food ruling my life? Why am I thinking about food every moment of my day? Food and body image are ruining my life! I can’t wait to live my life free of all these thoughts!!! Sound familiar? Yes, the mental battle is exhausting but you are not alone! I CAN HELP YOU! Healing of the mind and body start here!

In my clinical practice, I solely focus on helping my clients to create an overall balance between physical and mental health. Variety of mental health disorders result in disordered eating behaviors and poor nutritional status which can impact the outcome of therapeutic or medicinal treatment. Consideration of one’s eating behaviors, macro and micronutrient intake, and overall physical fitness is a vital part of one’s mental health treatment. I highly encourage mindful eating and health at every size while individualizing one’s treatment plan to provide the highest quality care.

During the initial/assessment/intake session, I will learn all about you, your struggles, your motivation and goal(s) and your level of readiness to move forward. You will also learn all about me, my experiences and my approach in treatment and in working with you as a unique individual. In this session, we also discuss long-term goals and follow-up appointments (as needed).

During these sessions, we discuss progress, obstacles, challenges or struggles with the current plan, make changes as needed, and set new goals.

DAILY CHECK-INS: I make daily commitment to my clients by texting them every day; This is a very unique approach that I have to treatment and recovery. Over the years, I have learned that frequent check-ins are the best way to increase level of accountability and trust, both of which can miraculously increase the speed of recovery and long-term well-being of my clients!

We can go grocery shopping together during which, I will provide you with tips on how to have a stress-free supermarket experience as well as some quick and easy recipes.

EATING TOGETHER (60-90 min):

It is often difficult for my clients to know when to start/stop eating, how much to eat, what to eat and when. During these outings, we address all these questions/concerns while addressing intuitive/mindful eating and facing the real fear and anxiety.

I have been teaching nutrition at university level since 2010. I have always taken advantage of my academic position to educate my students about the link between mental health and nutrition and to share my clinical knowledge. I have mentored and supervised several students/interns at Pacifica Recovery Services, many of which have ended up working in the field after their rotations. In 2014, I was promoted to the position of Dietetic Internship Director and in 2016, I directed the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) at Cal Poly Pomona University.

I have been practicing in the field since 2010 and have provided nutritional help to clients with all types and severity of Eating Disorders and/or compulsive and addictive behaviors. I have worked in a partial hospitalization as well as an intensive outpatient setting. I have had patients of all ages (11-75 years old) and from variety of ethnic and educational backgrounds as well as sexual orientation and lifestyle patterns (i.e. veganism, vegetarianism, and omnivore).

I was so lucky to have such a professional and educated dietitian to help me overcome my ED. Being a young boy who always struggled with eating, I was able to achieve healthy weight loss and overcome my ED with her guidance. Over the course of 2 yrs in IOP, Golie has helped me restructure my eating habits by teaching me how to eat properly and how food works and how to read food labels. Everything I learned from Golie has changed my life for the better. The massive weight loss I achieved is not as important as the happiness and strength is has brought to my life. Nothing compares to the feeling of being comfortable in your own body and to enjoy the benefits it had on my mental health. I am very thankful for everything she has done for me and I appreciate the amount of dedication she puts into her work.”

When I first started seeing Dr. Golie I felt so alone. I have struggled with emotional eating my entire life as a way to cope with trauma. I so badly wanted to develop a healthy relationship with food and my body, but was not sure if it was even possible. After seeing Dr. Golie weekly for over a year now I found a confidant, supporter and cheerleader to navigate my darkest times with. My relationship with my body is, and forever will be, an ongoing one, but Dr. Golie helped me see my body as a beautiful gift rather than a burden. Such a mindset has completely shifted the way I experience food, my body and the world. I have so many more moments of pure joy than I ever thought possible because of Dr. Golie. If you’re looking for someone to help you feel grounded in your enoughness, to make you feel seen and valued then look no further. Dr. Golie is an absolute light in the world; her compassion, thoughtfulness and commitment to her patients is truly unmatched. I am grateful every day that I found her.
